Israel is currently considered a high-tech country. More than half of the country's exports are High-Tech products. Outside some agricultural products and chemicals from the dead-sea, the country does not have much to offer in the way of natural resources. Israel's high-tech sector in the academic community is also very well known. In Computer-Sciences, Israel is first in output of scientific papers outside the United States.
Much of the progress in the international economy today is attributed to the rapid advancements in Information Technology field, which besides its contribution to overall productivity, also creates new products and markets at an unbelievable rate. No modern country can afford to stay behind in the Information Technologies race. Israel has a strong US orientation in its High-Tech technologies through products, American companies that have local business centers and Israeli students and researchers who study and work in the US.
Thus, there are many possible topics for cooperation with Israel.
We would, in particular, suggest three fields, but this is just a preliminary suggestion which can be changed and modified according to other suggestions:
1. Telecommunication, Cluster and Grid Technologies: In the High-Tech industry this field is considered primary field, and there are excellent world-class groups of researchers in several universities in Israel.
2. Computer-Vision: World class research groups in several universities and a lot of industry.
3. Computer-Graphics: A relatively young field in Israel; the researchers are an excellent group divided in all universities, and they have a very strong International presence. The field is picking up very rapidly world-wide and the commercial potential is huge.
